The Bellavista Hotel has a colourful history which adds character to the building and brings it to life. Dr James Roche Verling, lived in the house for a number of years and is best known for being the personal physician to Napoleon from 1818 to 1820. The Carbery Family, renowned for their relief work during the great Irish Famine, bought the house and lived here until 1914. In 1916 Bellavista House became the property of the Diocese of Cloyne and was officially opened by Bishop Robert Brown as the Sacred Heart Noviciate. Father Browne, a nephew of the Bishop, was a first class passenger on the Titanic from Southampton to Cobh (or Queenstown as it was called at the time) and he frequently stayed at the Bellavista House. Many of his photographs were used by the international media following the tragic sinking of the Titanic. Around 1931 the Sisters of Mercy moved out of the Bellavista and the house was became a private dwelling and divided into an upper and lower house. This remained the case for many years but today the building is reunited as one and refurbished to give you all the comforts of modern life while surrounded by the character of such an interesting building.

Many of our rooms have uninterrupted panoramic views of Cork Harbour, the world’s second largest natural harbour and Cobh Cathedral. Each year during the summer months anywhere between 50 and 60 large cruise liners sail up the harbour to berth at Cobh’s deep water quay. These liners can be seen from our balcony at the front of the hotel off the bar which is the ideal place to relax with friends and family when the sun is shining.

The Bellavista Hotel has a 24 hour reception to cater for your needs through the day and night. We also have a beautiful Chinese Restaurant serving food daily from 5:00, a welcoming bar with open fire lighting to give you that opportunity to relax and heat up and cold winter days, or sit out on the balcony with a few drinks during the warm summer days.

We also have fantastic views of Spike Island, which was at one point Irelands answer to Alcatraz. Spike Island no long acts as a working prison but you can now get a boat from Cobh across and get a tour of the Island to get a taste of what life was like in the prison.

The Bellavista Hotel is only a 3 minute walk from Cobh town centre where there is a good night life with a wide selection of pubs and restaurants. Cobh also is a hive of activity during the day for tourists of all ages, with walking tours of the town, the Titanic Experience, the Heritage Centre, Titanic Gardens, Cobh Cathedral and much more. With so much to do and some of the best views around, the Bellavista Hotel is your ideal location for an upcoming break.

The Bellavista Hotel also has a sister property, Harleys Guest House, which is also situated in Cobh and can be booked as our budget range.
